A LA MODE The Society of Floristry is pleased to announce details
of their 2009 show to be held on Sunday 22 November at the East Midlands
Conference Centre Nottingham form 9am to 4pm.
Following the successful format of previous years the show will be a mixture
of trade stands, demonstrations, workshops and competitions. The work of
a host of talented designers will be on display throughout the day.
HIGHLIGHTS
On Saturday 21st world renowned designer Richard Haslam NDSF AIFD will
be tutoring a day long bridal workshop. His bridal work is legendary and
this workshop will give ideas and tips that will make your wedding designs
stand out from the crowd. Also on Saturday 21st, Laura Leong will be hosting a workshop
on wired designs. Following her hugely popular demonstration at last year’s
show she will be giving away some of her secrets of how to design the intricate
work that she is so well known for. Please note the show is NOT open on Saturday except for
workshops. On Sunday the main events will be the two Theatres of designs.
This year we have 3:5:8 Productions launching their first book Botanical
Art at the show, and two of the designers of that book, Sarah Horne MSF
AIFD and Natalie Stanyer MSF, will be demonstrating in the theatre, which
after Sarah’s widely acclaimed show at the AIFD symposium last year, will
be one not to be missed. After lunch the theatre will host A Fusion of Tantalising
textures and will be presented by past president of Society, Eilleen Avery
Scott NDSF FSF and Belgian designer Tom de Wilde. This too promises to
be a spectacular display of floristry talent and early booking is advised. Short workshops on Sunday include The Golden Rule Demystified
with Paul Raven NDSF FSF, Jane Cowan MDPF FSF and Pamela Bennett MDPF FSF.
They will tutor a short session on glued and wired designs, and Elaine
Robinson NDSF,FSf,LCGI explains Form Linear designs giving ideas for cost
effective commercial activities. Sunday also sees a range of competitions including, new
this year, a competition sponsored by Nevado Roses of Ecuador. F and PA will be giving two seminars entitled “31 steps
to a Stand-Out Service – how to attract attention, keep customers and forge
a future in uncertain times” aimed at retail florists looking for ideas
to maintain their market share during the credit crunch and beyond. The Floral Fashion House will feature free demonstrations
throughout the day from four talented young designers; Melanie Garbutt

09, Alison Cooper MSF,Teleflorist of the Year 2009, Donna Cann,Teleflorist
Finalist at Tatton Park, and Amy Jones MSF, Society of Floristry Margot
